Planning a Christmas 2026 single or a New Year’s Day release? Start with your distributor’s upload schedule. Your music needs time for review and delivery before a streaming platform can process it. The deadline for a store to receive a release comes after the point when you submit it to your distributor.
CD Baby’s holiday guidance recommends submitting at least six weeks before releases scheduled between November 27, 2026, and January 1, 2027. Applying that recommendation gives November 13 for a December 25 release, or November 20 for a January 1 release. Those dates are calculated from its six-week recommendation.
DistroKid advises choosing a release date at least four weeks ahead if you need the music to launch on a specific date across platforms. Counting back four weeks gives November 27 for Christmas Day, or December 4 for New Year’s Day. This is planning guidance; it leaves room for service review and other delays.
Symphonic has published specific music-submission cut-offs. Releases dated November 27–December 4 must be submitted by November 6. For December 5–29, the cut-off is November 20. For December 30–January 5, submit by December 11. These are its music deadlines; its video schedule is separate.
Apple Music’s provider delivery schedule shows another stage of the process. These dates apply to content reaching Apple Music and the iTunes Store. They are useful reference points when discussing delivery with your distributor.
| Planned release date | Apple delivery deadline |
|---|---|
| November 27, 2026 | November 20, 2026 |
| December 4, 2026 | November 27, 2026 |
| December 11, 2026 | December 4, 2026 |
| December 18, 2026 | December 11, 2026 |
| December 25, 2026 | December 18, 2026 |
| January 1, 2027 | December 25, 2026 |
Allow for both stages when choosing your upload day. Submitting to a distributor on Apple’s delivery deadline leaves no allowance for the distributor’s own review. Ask which date applies to your account and release, then put that earlier submission date in your calendar.
Spotify playlist pitching needs its own space in the schedule. In Spotify for Artists, open Music, then Upcoming, choose an unreleased song and complete the pitch. Spotify says submitting at least seven days before release gets the song into followers’ Release Radar playlists. Editorial playlist placement remains a separate decision and is not guaranteed. Once the song is live, it is no longer eligible for an unreleased-song pitch.
For a December 25 release, seven days beforehand is December 18. Treat that as a minimum pitching interval, with the music delivered early enough to appear in Upcoming. Waiting until the last day to investigate a missing release can leave you with little room to resolve it.
Build time for corrections into the plan too. Apple advises against making changes between December 17 and December 25 because of the volume of deliveries and updates. Symphonic advises against release edits between December 14, 2026, and January 4, 2027. Check your provider’s current instructions before changing an already-delivered release.
Before submitting, check the final audio, artwork and metadata, including artist names and track titles. CD Baby includes these checks in its holiday preparation guidance. A useful practical step is to ask one collaborator to review the upload details against your approved credits and artwork before you send it.
Keep a small release calendar with four entries: distributor submission, delivery status check, Spotify pitch and public release. Add the person responsible beside each one. For a band, this helps prevent everyone assuming somebody else has checked the dashboard.
Prepare the announcement once the date and essential release details are settled. Our music press release template covers what to send journalists, editors and radio producers, with examples you can adapt. Keep the date consistent across your announcement, artwork captions and listening links.
If you have already passed a recommended lead time, ask your distributor about the release’s current status and available options. A recommendation and a hard submission cut-off serve different purposes. Use the answer to choose a workable date before committing to an announcement.
The useful question this season is whether your finished release has enough time to reach listeners on the day you intend. Check your provider’s schedule now, work backwards from the release date and leave room to solve a problem while support teams are available.
